Yang Ming Leads the Way in Sustainability Honored with the TCSA "Comprehensive Performance - Taiwan's Top 100 Model Enterprises Award" and "Sustainability Report - Transportation Industry Category 1 Platinum Level"

Yang Ming has once again demonstrated its commitment to sustainability by participating in the TCSA Taiwan Corporate Sustainability Awards, organized by the Taiwan Institute for Sustainable Energy (TAISE), for the fourth consecutive year. With annual achievements in sustainability and transparent disclosures in its sustainability reports consistently earning accolades, Yang Ming achieved remarkable recognition in 2024. This year, the company was honored with the "Taiwan Top 100 Model Enterprises Award" for the third time in the Comprehensive Performance category and received the "Sustainability Report - Transportation Industry Category 1 Platinum Level" for the second time. The awards were accepted on December 11, 2024, by President Cliff K. R. Pai on behalf of the company.

The biofuel bunkering was facilitated by Yang Ming's purchase of biofuel from Hanwa Co., Ltd., with the operation carried out by HD Hyundai Oilbank Co., Ltd. HD Hyundai Oilbank successfully supplied B30 VLSFO first time to foreign shippers under Korean government's demonstration project. The B30 VLSFO blend consists of 30% used-cooking oil methyl ester (UCOME) and 70% VLSFO, significantly reducing vessel greenhouse gas emissions. In response to climate change and carbon neutrality goals, Yang Ming is expanding its green and low-carbon transportation services. Throughout 2024, the Company has been progressively incorporating various biofuels across its fleet, with bunkering at ports including Shekou, Yantian, Hong Kong, Busan, Port Klang, Rotterdam, Singapore, and Istanbul. By November, the use of biofuel is expected to reduce emissions by approximately 40,000 tons compared to traditional fuels. Yang Ming will continue to increase the proportion of biofuels in its annual fuel consumption to further reduce emissions and promote eco-friendly fuel adoption.

Building on its core business of international maritime transport, Yang Ming continues to refine its sustainable governance strategies to address global challenges such as climate change, the digital era, human rights protection, and talent development. The company has implemented environmentally friendly strategies, including deploying new alternative energy vessels, phasing out aging ships, optimizing operations through smart management, and adopting biofuel and shore power for its fleet. These efforts have resulted in a 61.86% reduction in the carbon emissions intensity of Yang Ming's fleet operations in 2023 compared to the baseline year of 2008, exceeding the standards set by the International Maritime Organization (IMO). Yang Ming is also actively promoting the use of green energy in its office operations and advancing biodiversity conservation initiatives. These include reducing vessel speeds in biologically sensitive areas to minimize the risk of collisions with endangered whales and engaging in coral restoration projects to preserve marine biodiversity. Internally, the company has launched the ESG Passport Program, which incorporates environmental education and volunteer activities to raise awareness of sustainability across all levels of the organization and embed environmental responsibility into corporate culture. Additionally, Yang Ming continues to strengthen ESG management within its supply chain, aiming to collaborate with upstream and downstream suppliers to drive net-zero transitions. This forward-looking approach expands the scope of green services and ensures the company meets customer expectations while advancing its sustainability objectives. Yang Ming is also actively strengthening corporate governance and fostering a culture of integrity. The company has implemented human rights due diligence and established policies to ensure labor rights, creating a free, inclusive, and diverse work environment in alignment with the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGPs). In addition, Yang Ming is investing resources in maritime talent development through industry-academia collaborations, laying the foundation for cultivating future maritime professionals. The company also promotes local cultural development and marine education through its affiliated Yang Ming Culture Foundation, further advancing its commitment to societal and environmental sustainability.

Through its sustainability report, Yang Ming aims to effectively communicate with stakeholders on material issues and corresponding strategies. The company remains committed to ensuring the report's comprehensiveness, credibility, and transparency, fostering constructive engagement with its stakeholders. Being recognized with the TCSA Award once again affirms Yang Ming's commitment to sustainability. In the face of increasingly challenging operational environments, the company remains steadfast in its efforts to develop a green transportation network, leverage AI and digital tools, and focus on environmental conservation and talent cultivation. Yang Ming is committed to strengthening operational resilience by achieving gradual emissions reduction, preserving biodiversity, and fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace. Looking ahead, the company aims to integrate its core business strategies with sustainability initiatives, providing customers with efficient, low-carbon, and safe transportation services.
