Full Pandemic Prevention for Employee Safety

Yang Ming values the health of the employees. In March 2020, a pandemic response team was formed, which has been led by the Chairman since the 
pandemic in Taiwan worsened in May 2021. During the outbreak and spread of the pandemic in Taiwan in 2022, the Company adopted multiple measures to 
ensure the employees’ physical and mental health and prevent disease hazards. The following are the pandemic prevention measures implemented in 2022: 


Onshore Pandemic Control

 

1. Mobile offices:

In an effort to maintain the health of the employees and the normal operation of the Company, we adopted staggered shifts, flexible work time and other 
measures in response to the pandemic. To facilitate the Company’s digital transformation, MS365 App and cloud drives were used to make flexible adjustments to traditional paper-based office work for mobile offices. This allowed the employees to not only work as usual, but also take care of their families. 
 

2. Push notifications of pandemic prevention information:

Pandemic prevention e-mails were sent in a timely manner based on pandemic changes to provide the Company’s latest pandemic prevention information and response procedures. Related education and training courses were also organized during this touch period to provide every employee with a clear understanding of the Company’s actions and procedures to ensure our operation works smoothly. In addition, we also share self-care information not only with employees, but also with their families. We believe that doing so can prepare us to overcome the pandemic. 
 

3. Vaccination encouragement:

As some of the Company’s employees work at port were identified as“ high exposure risk workers,” the Occupational Safety & Health Office assisted them in making a reservation for vaccination as government-funded COVID-19 vaccination was available. We also worked closely with surrounding clinics in order to make a reservation for more employees to receive vaccination, thereby increasing the vaccination rate of our employees and effectively reducing their risk of infection or severe illness infection. Moreover, to further achieve herd immunity, a“ third vaccination for all” program was promoted to encourage all employees to improve and increase the vaccination rate. Through a phased prize draw, the third vaccination rate of the Company’s all employees were increased from 79% to 93% eventually. 
 

4. Pandemic insurance:

The Company took out “pandemic insurance” with insurance companies for the employees to claim for a pandemic grant immediately when they were 
infected. In view of the fact that the insurance companies would not renew the insurance policy when it expired following the outbreak of the pandemic in Taiwan in 2022, the Company designed “Yang Ming Care Packages” containing alcohol-based sanitizer sprays, masks, rapid test kits, alcohol-based sanitizers and a NT$2,000 voucher to show infected employees our care and make them feel that the Company was taking care of them. 
 

Care for Maritime Personnel:

To prevent the widespread of the pandemic, countries’ port management has been stricter, which has made deploying and disembarking seafarers upon the expiration of their contracts more difficult for carriers. In consideration of the importance of physical and mental care for seafarers, the Company is the first company in the shipping industry that introduce employee assistance programs (EAPs). We have also actively expanded the EAPs to cover not only onshore personnel and expatriated personnel (including their dependents), but also onboard personnel to offer them free professional counseling services in the hope of effectively helping them solve family/emotional/legal/workplace issues they face. When seafarers are onshore, the programs are introduced from time to time during large-scale seafarer training to allow them to understand how to utilize the programs, take full care of them, and meet their needs.
