Yang Ming Receives 2024 Sustainability Partner Awards from Union Pacific Railroad
Yang Ming Marine Transport Corporation (hereafter “Yang Ming”) is pleased to announce that it has been honored with the 2024 Sustainability Partner Award by Union Pacific Railroad (hereinafter “UP Railroad”). The award was presented at UP Railroad’s headquarters in Omaha, Nebraska, recognizing Yang Ming’s dedication to sustainable business practices. On behalf of Yang Ming, Mr. Wen-Jin Lee, Senior Executive Vice President of Operations at Yang Ming (America) Corp., and Mr. Brian Tzeng, Vice President of Logistics, accepted the award. This award underscores Yang Ming’s efforts and the recognition it has received from its business partners for its commitment to sustainability.
UP Railroad is one of the major rail operators in the U.S., covering 23 states in the western two-thirds of the country. It is also a key business partner for Yang Ming in providing inland transportation services for customers. UP Railroad has established the Sustainability Partner Awards to evaluate its upstream and downstream partners across various criteria, including environmental policies, human rights equality, labor rights, cybersecurity initiatives, risk management, and business integrity. The award recognizes companies that utilize innovative business models to reduce their environmental impact and share value with stakeholders through actions. It also honors business partners who have demonstrated leadership and made significant progress toward achieving sustainability goals.
Yang Ming has been committed to promoting sustainability by implementing policies in environmental protection, social responsibility, and corporate governance, to maintain competitiveness and operational resilience in the ever-evolving shipping industry. The Company has set a goal for net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. To reach this goal, Yang Ming is focused on vessel replacement, energy optimization, and the integration of smart technologies to reduce energy consumption and improve operational efficiency. In 2023, the carbon intensity of Yang Ming’s fleet was reduced significantly by 61.86% compared to 2008. Additionally, to support biodiversity conservation, the Company’s Board of Directors approved the “Biodiversity Protection and Zero Deforestation Commitment”. This initiative aims to minimize environmental impact through ballast water treatment, voluntary speed reductions in sensitive marine areas, coral restoration, removal of invasive species, and beach clean-ups. Yang Ming also maintains open communication channels with stakeholders, actively addressing significant sustainable issues and ensuring transparency through its sustainability reports. Given the long-standing partnership between Yang Ming and UP Railroad, the Company has participated in the award selection process since 2023. The recognition symbolizes the joint effort of both companies to advance shared sustainability values and lead the industry toward a sustainable future.

Yang Ming Wins IT Matters Awards for Digital Transformation
Yang Ming is committed to implementing digital transformation strategies, with the IT Department actively integrating efforts across various departments. In collaboration with the Marine and Engineering Departments, the IT team successfully developed the Vessel Big Data Dashboard (referred to as the Vessel Dashboard System). This project was submitted for the 2024 IT Matters Awards, overseen by the Ministry of Digital Affairs. Amid strong competition from 253 companies, Yang Ming stood out to win this prestigious award. On December 11, 2024, Senior Vice President Johnny Chang of the IT Department accepted the honor on behalf of the company.
Yang Ming Actively Expands Green Services First Foreign Carrier to Complete B30 VLSFO Bunkering at Busan Port
Yang Ming is advancing its sustainability efforts to meet the 2050 net-zero emissions target. Beginning this year, the Company has been gradually integrating biofuels into its fleet to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. In December, Yang Ming became the first foreign carrier to bunker B30 very-low sulfur fuel oil (VLSFO) at Busan Port, receiving 1,000 metric tons. This milestone underscores its commitment to emission reduction.

Taiwan Corporate Sustainability Awards, organized by the Taiwan Institute for Sustainable Energy (TAISE), for the fourth consecutive year. With annual achievements in sustainability and transparent disclosures in its sustainability reports consistently earning accolades, Yang Ming achieved remarkable recognition in 2024. This year, the company was honored with the "Taiwan Top 100 Model Enterprises Award" for the third time in the Comprehensive Performance category and received the "Sustainability Report - Transportation Industry Category 1 Platinum Level" for the second time. The awards were accepted on December 11, 2024, by President Cliff K. R. Pai on behalf of the company.
