Yang Ming Group Beach Cleanup Collaborating with Suppliers to Promote Environmental Sustainability
Yang Ming is dedicated to exerting a positive corporate influence by continuously investing in marine ecological protection initiatives. For years, Yang Ming has consistently rallied colleagues both domestically and internationally to participate in environmental sustainability actions. On June 22, Yang Ming hosted a beach cleanup activity, extending the invitation to include supply chain partners. Led by Yang Ming's Chief Administrative Officer & Senior Vice President, Caroline Chiu, the event saw participation from employees and their families, including those from headquarters and domestic subsidiaries, as well as ten supply chain partners. Together, they worked at Wanli Beach in New Taipei City located in Northern Taiwan, removing a total of 221.6 kilograms of marine debris, demonstrating a collective effort to preserve the cleanliness of the coastline.
Marine environmental conservation has garnered significant attention globally in recent years. Recognizing the precious and vital nature of marine ecosystems, Yang Ming has been orchestrating beach and river cleanups since 2022. By May 2024, these collaborative efforts from employees of headquarters, subsidiaries, and overseas sites, have successfully cleared 8.8 tons of marine debris. In addition, the partnership with suppliers is also crucial to achieving Yang Ming's environmental sustainability goals. To familiarize suppliers with its environmental initiatives, Yang Ming held a supplier conference in 2023 and, for the first time, invited long-term supply chain partners to participate in the on-site activity this year. The June 22 beach cleanup event saw enthusiastic participation from suppliers, including Chevron Marine Products LLC, British Petroleum (Castrol Marine), International Paint (Taiwan) Ltd., He Fong Co., Ltd., Hewlett Packard Enterprise Taiwan, Chunghwa Telecom Co., Ltd. - Keelung Business Office, M-Power Information Co., Ltd., Ivan Information Technology Company, WiAdvance Technology Co., and Bgic Information Co., Ltd. Alongside Yang Ming Group employees and their families, over 100 participants removed approximately 221.6 kilograms of marine debris, including plastic bottle caps, PET bottles, food and beverage containers, straws, fishing nets, buoys, lighters, and more, all contributing to a cleaner marine environment.

Yang Ming is advancing its sustainability efforts to meet the 2050 net-zero emissions target. Beginning this year, the Company has been gradually integrating biofuels into its fleet to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. In December, Yang Ming became the first foreign carrier to bunker B30 very-low sulfur fuel oil (VLSFO) at Busan Port, receiving 1,000 metric tons. This milestone underscores its commitment to emission reduction.

Taiwan Corporate Sustainability Awards, organized by the Taiwan Institute for Sustainable Energy (TAISE), for the fourth consecutive year. With annual achievements in sustainability and transparent disclosures in its sustainability reports consistently earning accolades, Yang Ming achieved remarkable recognition in 2024. This year, the company was honored with the "Taiwan Top 100 Model Enterprises Award" for the third time in the Comprehensive Performance category and received the "Sustainability Report - Transportation Industry Category 1 Platinum Level" for the second time. The awards were accepted on December 11, 2024, by President Cliff K. R. Pai on behalf of the company.
