Partnering with Dong Gang Maritime High School to Cultivate the Next Generation of Marine Engineering Professionals
Guided by its commitment to sustainable operations and talent development, Yang Ming held a signing ceremony for a Maritime Personnel Talent Development Cooperation Agreement with National Dong Gang Senior High School of Marine Science and Aquaculture (hereinafter referred to as "Dong Gang Maritime") on January 21 at Yang Ming's Qidu Headquarters Building. The agreement was signed by Chairman Dr. Chuck F. M. Tsai on behalf of Yang Ming and Principal Hung Chia-Huang on behalf of Dong Gang Maritime.
During the three-year cooperation period, both parties will jointly promote the professionalization and institutionalization of maritime education. Through proactive industry–academia collaboration initiatives, the partnership aims to deepen professional learning and expand the maritime talent pool. By strengthening cooperation between industry and academia, the program seeks to encourage and support young students in pursuing maritime studies, thereby laying a solid foundation to address future challenges in shipping, including energy transition and safe vessel operations.
Dong Gang Maritime has long focused on the cultivation of marine engineering professionals and serves as a key cradle for training entry-level national maritime personnel. Yang Ming has collaborated with the school on maritime personnel development since 2022. This renewed agreement not only continues the strong partnership between the two parties―such as scholarship programs for outstanding marine engineering students and employment assurance mechanisms―but also further expands the scope of cooperation.

In addition, the cooperation will move toward establishing a comprehensive maritime talent development framework, enabling aspiring young maritime professionals to build expertise under clear career guidance.
Through prioritized matching and recruitment mechanisms, students can seamlessly connect with international maritime careers at the very start of their professional journeys, while also helping Yang Ming establish a stable and sustainable pipeline of qualified maritime personnel.
Chairman Dr. Chuck F. M. Tsai noted that safe fleet operations are the cornerstone of reliable shipping services, and that the professional competence of seafarers forms the foundation of safe and steady navigation. He emphasized that collaboration between enterprises and professional maritime institutions, supported by rigorous and systematic training, is essential to strengthening long-term professional competitiveness. Through deepened industry–academia collaboration with Dong Gang Maritime, Yang Ming aims to provide a platform for sharing operational expertise and practical experience, enabling students to gain a clear understanding of industry trends while still in school. This environment allows students to focus on their studies without concern for future career prospects and to transition smoothly into the workforce after graduation, ultimately becoming the next generation of chief engineers or professional maritime management leaders guiding the fleet forward.

“YM Willpower” Completes First LNG Bunkering in Singapore Advancing Energy Transition and Customer Decarbonization Services
Yang Ming continues to proactively advance its energy transition strategy in response to evolving international environmental regulations. In 2026, Yang Ming will progressively introduce newly built 15,500 TEU class container vessels primarily fueled by liquefied natural gas (LNG) into its operating fleet. The lead vessel, YM Willpower, completed partial LNG bunkering at the shipyard prior to delivery and was officially deployed on February 8 into Yang Ming’s Far East–Mediterranean MD2 service. On February 26, through close collaboration with the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) and energy supplier Shell Eastern Trading (Pte) Ltd. (Shell), YM Willpower successfully bunkered around 3,500 metric tons of LNG in Singapore. The LNG supplied will serve as the vessel’s primary fuel for the entire voyage. This milestone signifies Yang Ming’s concrete progress in low-carbon transformation and the provision of emission-reduction solutions to customers, further demonstrating the Company’s firm commitment toward the gradual realization of net-zero emissions.
