Yang Ming Earns Dual Recognition by Winning the TCSA's "Sustainability Comprehensive Performance Award" and "Corporate Sustainability Reports Award" for the Third Consecutive Year
On November 15, the 16th "Taiwan Corporate Sustainability Awards (TCSA)" ceremony was held. Registering in the "Sustainability Comprehensive Performance Award" and "Corporate Sustainability Reports Award" categories for the third consecutive year, Yang Ming was selected from 386 corporations to win the "Top 100 Taiwanese Sustainable Corporates Award" and the "Corporate Sustainability Report Awards – Transportation Industry Platinum Award". Ms. Sylvia Liu, Vice President of the Public Affairs Department, was in attendance to accept the accolades.
Hosted by the Taiwan Institute for Sustainable Energy Research (TAISE), the 16th Taiwan Corporate Sustainability Awards (TCSA) were judged by a panel of 1,281 academics and volunteers on the principles of objectivity, fairness, justness, and transparency. The Company has been making steady progress in the "Corporate Sustainability Reports Award" category since it first entered the competition in 2021. Winning the "Corporate Sustainability Report Awards – Transportation Industry Platinum Award" is the recognition of Yang Ming's committed efforts in providing multiple communication channels to stakeholders, active participation in sustainability initiatives to exert corporate influence, quantifying data to showcase ESG performances, disclosing the results of risk assessment for climate change and substantiating supply-chain negotiation, as well as deliberating on the management and reduction practices regarding energy consumption, GHG emissions, and waste disposal. Given the comprehensiveness, trustworthiness, and unobstructed communication demonstrated in the sustainability report, which scored highly by the panel, the Company ultimately was honored with the platinum award.
This year was also the second time of Yang Ming garnering the recognition with the "Top 100 Taiwanese Sustainable Corporates Award". For years, the Company has been dedicated to sustainable governance, professionalism in international marine transport, building an ideal environment for corporate governance, as well as pushing for integrity in operation and whistleblowing system. At the same time, the Company's operational resilience is strengthened through an emphasis on risk management and climate change governance. To stay abreast of the digital transformation trend, Yang Ming has rolled out many new e-services, such as the e-counter, e-D/O (electronic delivery order), and the intelligent customer service system, that offer customers one-stop and paperless services. With operation going digitized, the Company is able to reduce paper consumption and transport-related emissions. Offering customers convenient and speedy services is key to improving overall quality and satisfaction. Through retrofitting existing ships, controlling navigation schedules, managing smart fleet, replacing old ships, careful disposal of ballast water, as well as decelerating in the Particularly Sensitive Sea Area (PSSA), Yang Ming is decreasing its yearly carbon emission intensity, achieving beyond the standards set by international regulations, and accomplishing the goals of marine conservation. The educational sessions offered by the Yang Ming Cultural Foundation bring communities together with fun, everyday knowledge about marine transport. Whether in local elementary or junior high schools, these sessions allow students to learn about marine transport, experience harbor culture, and become aware of issues related to sustainable oceans. With the above efforts going strong, the communities will continue to grow and prosper.
Sustainable governance is an all-around challenge yet also a niche to ensure a company's competitive edge in prospective markets and to exert its positive impact. To this end, Yang Ming carefully studies the global trend in sustainable development. This will allow the Company to achieve the goals of net-zero emissions by 2050, real-time and transparent information disclosure, continuing optimization of corporate governance, safeguarding biodiversity, as well as creating a diverse and fair work environment. Together with operational strategies, these objectives will help the Company to grow and prosper following the blueprint of corporate sustainability development.
