Yang Ming Celebrates Earth Day with Events Promoting Sustainability

Over the years, Yang Ming has been an enthusiastic advocate for environmental sustainability and staying informed on key issues. Apart from taking an active role on saving energy and reducing carbon emission, the Company is also encouraging its employees to participate in sustainability events. Since 2022, the Company has organized a series of environmental education courses and seashore clean-ups. Right before this year's Earth Day, all of the YM family members were invited to jointly reduce carbon emission by turning off the lights for one hour each day during Earth week, " Vegan Day" on April 20.

In order to decrease employee's consumption of disposable cups, lids, straws from take-outs, free bubble tea was served at headquarters. These efforts were aimed at carrying out environmental sustainability and cherishing natural sources. Yang Ming has been actively involved in promoting marine conservation by implementing measures such as hull form optimization, construction of eco-friendly vessels, and revamping existing ships to lower environmental impact. In 2022, Yang Ming fleet's carbon intensity was down by 59% from 2008, ahead of the IMO's goal of 40% reduction by 2030. In addition, Yang Ming was selected by Xeneta and Searoutes as one of the world's top environmental performers. For the sustainability awareness to take root, the Company reached out locally through partnership with the Azure Alliance on the ocean clean-up program, debris that is floating on sea surface and out of reach was successfully removed by Azure Fighter. Also, the harbor clean-up at New Taipei City's Pi-tou Fishing Harbor saw 1,024 YM employees collecting a total of 2.26 tons of rubbish. Because of Yang Ming's ongoing support for seashore clean-ups, Azure Fighter continue to evolve, now the new-generation Azure Fighter has been joined Azure Alliance to protect the environment. Equipped with the latest smart and cleaner technology, this vessel is an important addition to make a positive impact on our planet. In celebration of the Earth Day, Yang Ming implemented a variety of Earth Week initiatives between April 17 and 21. Throughout the week, Yang Ming's offices participated in a daily one-hour lights-off turned off event, saving around 2,000 kWh of electricity.

Also, considering the carbon emission of plant-based meals is 10 to 20 times lower than meat-based ones, Yang Ming hosted a Vegan Day event, providing employees with plant-based lunch for a change. In addition, Yang Ming took proactive steps to address the negative impact of plastic disposables. The headquarters office hosted an Environmentally-Friendly Bubble Tea Day, inviting employees to bring their own mugs or cups and enjoy various types of free bubble tea while reducing their consumption of plastic cups, straws, straw covers, and lids.

Yang Ming continues to uphold its operating principle of environmental sustainability and implement ESG policies while also paying close attention to the issues of global warming and climate change. By launching a series of events on the Earth Day, the Company is hoping to nurture employees' conservation awareness and jointly safeguard the mother Earth in our daily lives.
