Sewage Disposal Management
Water resources are also a key concern for Yang. The Company strictly complies with water resource regulations established by competent authorities at operational locations, International Maritime Organization (IMO), International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships (MARPOL), and other international regulations for water resource use and discharge.

※ The above table sources are freshwater (≤ 1,000 mg/L total dissolved solids).
※ The Company's onshore business locations do not extract water from water-stressed areas.
※ Yang Ming’s Qidu headquarters building and Kaohsiung Branch use RO systems to recover partial wastewater annually and reuse it for domestic water.

※ Water replenishment volume was not recorded in 2022. Since vessels are not equipped with flow meters, discharge volumes cannot be recorded.
To reduce purchasing third-party tap water, Yang Ming vessels are all equipped with fresh water generators. The fresh water generator uses the vessel engine's cylinder liner cooling water as its heat source and converts seawater into distilled water through vacuum distillation heating and vaporization condensation. While the fresh water generator operates, it also removes heat from the cylinder liner cooling water, thereby enhancing engine cooling effectiveness. The freshwater produced by the fresh water generator is mainly used for boilers and domestic water. The drinking water for seafarers is mainly replenished when vessels dock at terminals, with no water extraction from water-stressed areas.
Vessel water consumption is divided into machinery equipment and accommodation personnel consumption. Since there are no measuring devices, discharge volumes are not recorded. The Company's management measures are described as follows: Yang Ming vessels' engine room bilge water uses oil-water separators complying with International Maritime Organization (IMO) and International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships (MARPOL) regulations and adopts coastal and port environmental protection policies exceeding convention requirements, conducting legal operations beyond 15/25 nautical miles offshore, under conditions of appropriate vessel speed, oil pollution concentration below 15ppm, and non-Antarctic areas for sea discharge. Greywater includes drainage from dishwashing water, bathing water, laundry water, shower and washbasin drainage. Currently, the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships does not regulate greywater treatment. Yang Ming exceeds convention requirements by installing or retrofitting greywater storage tanks. Future newbuilds will all be equipped with greywater storage tanks. Current vessels do not discharge within 15/25 nautical miles of shore, storing greywater in onboard greywater storage tanks.
